What is considered a minor or a major violation?

Cover Whale requires disclosure of major violations within 5 years of policy date & 3 years for minor violations and accidents.

Minor moving violations include:

  • Speeding
  • Improper or excessive lane changes
  • Following too closely
  • Accidents
  • Running a red light or stop sign
  • Failure to yield

Major violations include:

  • Speeding in excess of 20 MPH
  • Reckless or careless driving
  • Passing a stopped school bus
  • Texting or talking without a hands-free device while driving
  • Hit and run
  • Drag racing
  • Driving under the influence - DUI or DWI
  • Criminal conviction including assault or homicide Involving a motor vehicle
  • Driving with a suspended license
