What are Cover Whale's guidelines or appetite?

Our guidelines/appetite are as follows:

Auto Liability 

  • Targeting 1-25 power units at bind
  • Growth of two additional power units per quarter is allowed once the policy has been bound
  • Dashcam is required for Auto Liability
  • Two years minimum driving experience with a similar vehicle
  • New Ventures with 5 or more units must receive written underwriting approval prior to binding
  • No vehicles below 6,001 pounds
  • All drivers and vehicles must be scheduled to extend coverage
  • Tractors and trailers must be newer than 23 years old
  • No more than 3 cancellations in the previous year
  • Non-admitted Auto Liability states include AL, AZ, AR, CA, CO, DE, GA, FL, ID, IA, IN, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NH, NJ, OH, OK, OR, RI, PA, TN, TX, UT, VA, and WV.
  • Admitted Auto Liability states include GA, FL, IL, NC, NV, OH, SC, and WI with more coming soon!

Auto physical damage, motor truck cargo, non-trucking liability, and general liability guidelines

  • Targeting 1-75 power units
  • Risks can be written as a package or on a standalone basis
  • Two years minimum driving experience with like vehicle
  • Tractors and trailers must be newer than 23 years old
  • Refrigeration breakdown is available if trailers are less than 10 years old
  • $7,500 towing and storage limit (APD) included with options up to $25,000

Exclusions and ineligibles

Upon binding coverage, Cover Whale flags ineligible cargo and operations, as well ineligible cargo and operations selections in SAFER. Bound policies that include Cover Whale and SAFER exclusions are subject to cancellation.
