Cover Whale API: Quote, Bind, and Service Policies From Your Own System

What is the Cover Whale API?

The Cover Whale API connects your agency's own system, whether that's an agency management system, a rating platform, or a custom portal, directly to Cover Whale. Your producers fill out the application once, in the system they already use. For fleets with fewer than 6 power units, they get a real price back in seconds. There's no need to re-enter the same information into a second portal.

One integration gives you access to:

  • Five coverage lines in a single submission: Auto Liability (AL), Auto Physical Damage (APD), Motor Truck Cargo (MTC), Truckers General Liability (TGL), and Non-Trucking Liability (NTL).
  • 45 states on one contract: APD, MTC, and TGL are available in all 45 states, and AL is available in 41.
  • A-rated paper across every line and every Cover Whale carrier.

What Can I Do With the API?

  • Quote: Get exact premiums and fees, binding-eligible, across all five lines in one submission.
  • Bind: Submit coverage selection, e-signature, premium financing, and TRIA election from your platform. Underwriting then releases the policy.
  • Endorse: Add, update, or remove units, drivers, and trailers on a bound policy, then re-rate the endorsement.
  • Manage the policy lifecycle: Handle cancellation requests, approval and execution, reinstatements, non-renewals, and declines.
  • Pull documents: Retrieve any submission document by type as a PDF.
  • Receive webhooks (rolling out now): Register an endpoint once, and Cover Whale will send a signed notification when a submission's status changes, from quote ready through cancellation. There are eight events in total.

Important: Webhook subscriptions are self-serve, but event delivery is still rolling out. Check with your Business Development rep for the latest availability.

How Do I Get Started?

Getting connected takes four steps:

  1. Connect: Reach out to your Cover Whale Business Development rep to get started. We'll scope your use case and put an agreement in place.
  2. Build: You'll receive test credentials to build against our separate test environment.
  3. Certify: We review your integration against our published integration checklist, then issue production credentials.
  4. Launch: Change one hostname and you're live, on the same platform and the same paper as every other Cover Whale policy.
