A driver has been declined for violations, can Underwriting review the Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)?

Last Update 2/5/2026

Yes, if you believe the MVR is inaccurate, you can request an underwriting review.

  How to Request a Review

  1. Log in to the Cover Whale platform and locate the submission
  2. Navigate to the Files tab
  3. Upload supporting documentation that demonstrates the MVR is inaccurate (e.g., court records showing a violation was dismissed, proof of identity if the MVR belongs to a different person)
  4. Go to the Notes section and add a comment requesting a reassessment by the underwriting team
  5. The underwriting team will evaluate the information and reassess the driver's eligibility

Proactive Option: Verify MVR Before Binding

To avoid surprises at bind time, you can now purchase MVRs directly through the Cover Whale platform before submitting a bind request. This allows you to:

  - Review the driver's MVR in advance
  - Identify any violations or discrepancies
  - Resolve issues or gather supporting documentation before the bind request
  - Avoid delays in the binding process

To purchase an MVR, go to the Drivers tab on your submission, select the driver(s), and click "Purchase MVR." Payment is processed via Stripe (credit card).

  What to Expect

  - Underwriting will review your documentation and the MVR
  - If the evidence supports your dispute, the driver may be reconsidered
  - Response times vary based on workload and complexity of the review

  Tips for a Successful Review

  - Provide clear, legible documentation (court records, DMV corrections, etc.)
  - Include a detailed explanation in the Notes section describing why the MVR is inaccurate
  - If the violation belongs to a different person (name match issue), include proof of the driver's identity
