What types of filings does Cover Whale handle and how quickly are they processed?
No matter your unique filing needs, Cover Whale can generally complete your filings within one business day. For new policies, your agent will request state and/or federal filings as part of your application. If you have an existing policy and now need filings, contact your agent so they can notify us. Cover Whale can handle the following filings:
- Form E filings: State-level filing, except for Florida where Form E is an exemption.
- Form H filings: For Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ohio only (excluding household goods operations); submit the request and Cover Whale will work on the filings.
- DOT BMC 91x filings: Federal-level filing
- DMV 65 filings: Specific to California; requires a California carrier identification number
- TXDOT filings: Requires a certificate number
- MCS-90: Included in the Auto Liability policy package
- Uniform Intermodal Interchange and Facilities Access Agreement (UIIA)
Please remember:
- Federal Filings are needed for motor carriers crossing state lines (interstate) and confirm carrying the required coverages based on the operation at a policy level. These are processed through the FMCSA.
- State Filings are needed for motor carriers within state lines (intrastate) and confirm carrying the required coverages based on the operation at a policy level.
- DMV Reporting is required to confirm coverages at a vehicle level for specific VIN numbers, which might be necessary for plates/registration.
