Driver Safety Program FAQs

Why do we need a dashcam?
Installing a dashcam is crucial as it helps to identify any dangerous driving practices, which can prevent accidents from happening. With the additional benefit of coaching, we can offer competitively priced, high-quality insurance to help keep you safe on the road.

Can I cover the dashcam?
No, covering the dashcam while driving is considered tampering with it. To ensure safety and comply with insurance requirements, keep the dashcam uncovered.

When does the dashcam record?
The dashcam will only record while your vehicle is in operation with the ignition on. It will not record during prolonged periods when the ignition is off.

Will my employer see the dashcam footage?
In the interest of transparency and ensuring road safety, your employer may request specific footage from the dashcam if necessary. We believe in working together to promote safety on the road for everyone.

What if I don't install the dashcam?
To ensure coverage for your Cover Whale Auto Liability policy, it's necessary to install a dashcam. Failure to do so may put your policy at risk of cancellation.

How is the dashcam information used?
The data collected by the dashcam is utilized in our Safety Program to offer valuable feedback on safe driving practices. Additionally, the footage can be utilized in the event of an accident or claim, further promoting road safety.

What dashcam footage is saved or deleted?
The dashcam records all footage until it is overwritten, but it saves specific moments such as teachable driving events and accidents. This footage can be utilized to offer helpful feedback on driving practices and support claims.

Can the dashcam save me money?
Yes! With the driving data from the dashcam, Cover Whale-insured drivers can save up to 30% on their premium when renewing their Auto Liability policy. It's a great way to enhance safety while reducing costs! For potential discounts, we evaluate drivers on factors such as frequency of speeding, hard braking and sharp cornering, and dashcam compliance. These help us understand your safe-driving practices and enables us to apply a safe-driving discount at renewal time.

Do I have to pay for the dashcam?
No, there is no extra charge for the dashcam. The safety underwriting fee you paid covers the cost of the Driver Safety Program, including dashcam usage, safety training, and monitoring.

Does the dashcam record sound?
The dashcam does not record sound, but it records footage of your vehicle's movements while driving.

Who should I contact if there's a dashcam issue?
